International
Die 1. Offene Schach-Tennis Europameisterschaft wurde von 26. – 27.Juli 2014 in Baden-Baden ausgetragen. Europameister wurde der Russe Pavel Tregubov.
Die 1. Schach-Tennis Weltmeisterschaft wurde von 04. – 05. August 2018 ebenfalls in Baden-Baden ausgetragen.
Chess-tennis is a combination sport of chess and tennis in which athletes compete against each other with the goal of scoring more points than their opponents in the addition of chess and tennis.
In both chess and tennis, it is possible to score half a point by drawing or a full point by winning. The most common modes of competition are either the combination of two independent tournaments (chess and tennis) with 7 rounds each according to the Swiss system, or the direct encounters between two athletes, where chess and tennis are played alternately until a decision can be made either on chess or tennis.
Idea
The fascination of chess-tennis is based on its tactical variety and the combination of two sports with different requirement profiles. The idea of chess-tennis is that top athletes take part in a joint tournament alongside amateur athletes. The tournament mode, based on the Swiss system, guarantees a sporting competition for all participants.
Start
The original idea of chess-tennis comes from Germany. At the beginning of the 2010s the first tournaments were held. There were and still are different approaches to counting. Chess is usually played as a rapid chess variant with 15 minutes of thinking time and in tennis as a match tiebreak to 11 points.
International
The 1st Open European Chess Tennis Championship was held in Baden-Baden from July 26-27, 2014. The European Champion was the Russian Pavel Tregubov.
The 1st World Chess Tennis Championship was held from 04 – 05 August 2018, also in Baden-Baden. The world champion was Laurent Fressinet from France.
Associations
With the CSA (eng.: Chess Sports Association), an international federation was founded in 2021, which aims to organize chess-sport combination competitions with a broad public perception. The CSA is also an international organization for the promotion of popular sports, especially chess.
